Giving pets a pet

Start the conversation

To the un-wonderful world of sad advice from Western Australia’s Consumer Protection this week advising pet-lovers to look after their pets as the

unavoidable world of scamming is even stooping low to threaten the future of the family cat or dog.

“In Western Australia last year, our WA ScamNet team received 114 reports of pet scams, with 75 victims losing more than $216,000,” the Consumer counsellor communicated.

“Cute photos of puppies and kittens have been used by scammers for years to dupe prospective pet buyers out of their hard-earned money.”

A worthwhile warning accompanied with an advised advertiser from the WA warners, who caught our attention with a headline worth heeding:

“Give pet scams paws for thought”, they pointed out.

Well done WA CP.

Creativity is never too groanworthy!

Serving Saturday!

And while we’re on the art of public service creativity, South Australia’s ‘Service SA’ has gone for the gifted good-humour to announce it would be opening some of its weekly workshops to ‘Service SA’ more often.

“Starting from 6 May, Service SA centres in Elizabeth, Marion, Modbury, Prospect and Seaford Meadows will be open on Saturdays from 9am-5pm,” SA said.

It said the new openings would offer citizens “more convenience – particularly for customers who work or have commitments during regular business hours”.

And how did SA disclose its openings?

With a gutsy groovy gumption headline of course:

‘Hey Hey, it’s Service SA Saturdays!’

Blatantly smart, sharp and skilful, but with just one solicitude.

Why do people call Saturday their ‘Weak end?’

In books we trust

Competition and lucky winner section now where the ever-generous Rama Gaind ever-generously offers another free giveaway to lucky readers who play her weekly free giveaway game.

This week’s prize is the book An Ungrateful Instrument by award-winning Australian author Michael Meehan, two copies of which will be on their way to readers who know who is telling the story in the novel.

The answer is the story is told by Jean-Baptiste’s highly attuned mute sister, Charlotte-Elisabeth, an answer which successfully delivered to PS-sssst!’s infamous judges of the Barrel of Booty, Kate D from the Australian Government Department of Education and Jennifer H of the Queensland Department of Communities, Housing and Digital Economy.

Big congratulations to Kate and Jennifer and thanks to everyone who took part. The thrilling books will be on their way to their new owners very soon.

For another chance to join Rama’s Army of Convivial Conquerors all we have to do is play Rama’s her giveaway game and answer one or both of her reviews of the DVD The Amazing Maurice at this PS News link and/or her also relishable review of the DVD The Siege at this PS News link.

Good luck to all who give it a go!

Amazed by Maurice

AND…. While we’re still with Rama, take notice of her latest thunderstorm of prizes for two PS News film fans who stand to win merchandise packs from The Amazing Maurice movie which opens all round Australia on 5 April.

To win special free backpack, pen, notebook and cap from Maurice, all we need to do is tell Rama at [email protected] who wrote the cool cat’s screenplay.

“Entries should be sent by Monday, 10 April,” Rama advised with the winners published in PS-sssst! that week.

Check Rama’s review of The Amazing Maurice in her Flick Pick review this week and follow her instructions to put the backpack to work.

Another reason for PS News readers to put their good luck to work and walk away a winner.

The No’s don’t have it!

And finally, another visit to the Wise West where the first group of school girls have graduated from the State’s Department of Fire and Emergency Services.

“Not only did they learn about first aid and firefighting …. they also developed communication and teamwork skills,” a spokesperson for the Department said.

And in Ps-sssst!’s opinion, the girls were also encouraged to succeed their work by the powerfully positive name of the program they passed.

The program they succeeded was the Youth in Emergency Services program, an abbreviation the young students couldn’t miss – YES!

Brilliant!

Till next week…..
