Overview
Championing stories of First Nations excellence and allyship.
This summit is a platform for current and emerging First Nations leaders to share their stories, learnings and advice with their peers and others on the path to leadership.

Reflecting on healing, resilience, reconciliation and Closing the Gap, this event will spotlight the excellence and strengths of First Nations leaders and their contribution to the public sector.

It will also be an opportunity to discuss the ways in which allies and organisations can contribute meaningfully to reconciliation, enact genuine allyship, and continue to listen to, uplift and amplify the voices of First Nations people.

With an emphasis on authenticity, generosity and truth-telling, this summit is an open and safe space for all to come together, share and learn.

Procurement Essentials and Contract Management

Procurement and contracting activities are undertaken by a range of APS employees with differing levels of expertise. Procurement essentials and contract management form an essential core skill required by all APS employees as part of their role at some stage.

This program has been designed to assist APS employees to understand the Commonwealth Resource Management Framework and demonstrate accountability and transparency in how taxpayers’ money is spent. As a result of this program, participants will be better able to plan and conduct ”value-for-money” procurements and effectively manage contracts to achieve government outcomes.

Training is in a virtual environment suitable for APS 3 – EL 2 and APS employees undertaking procurement and contracting activities, including resource and financial management.

Dealing with Change

This is an intensive course exploring change at the personal and organisational levels. Understand concepts of resilience and develop techniques to be adaptable and responsive. Share thoughts and ideas on dealing with change with others.

Procurement Basics aims to provide APS employees with an introduction to Commonwealth procurement – external site.

Awareness and understanding of the Commonwealth Procurement Framework are essential to ensure compliance when APS employees are required to commit and expend Commonwealth funds through procurement.

This course has been designed to build the procurement and contracting capabilities of employees as the Commonwealth seeks to deliver more strategic value-for-money outcomes when buying goods and services.

Contract Management Basics

Public Sector Mental Health & Resilience for Personal Wellbeing & Performance

Speaker Melissa Harries is a psychologist and specialist in developing proactive interventions that improve employee wellbeing, drawn from more than a decade working with the Australian Army running a military mental health unit supporting 1200 soldiers.

Also, she founded the Parramatta Psychology Clinic in 2012 and provides EAP counselling, where she specialises in managing mental health in the workplace and adaptability.

Building and Leading High-Performing Teams

This course helps managers create and maintain high-performing teams where work is aligned with government priorities.

Public Sector Women of Colour Leadership & Allyship Summit

The 3rd Public Sector Women of Colour Leadership & Allyship Summit 2024 will amplify the voices of inspiring women of colour, showcasing their remarkable leadership journeys as they navigate personal challenges, celebrate their individuality and defy stereotypes of what it means to be a leader.

Discussions will address critical issues such as the prevalence of the bamboo ceiling, racism and its impact on mental health and performance, the role of sponsorship to support career advancement, and practical solutions and strategies to address the many barriers faced by CALD and CARM women of colour in the public sector.

Speaker Melinda Brown is a Ngunnawal woman who now resides in the Northern Rivers Bundjalung Nation and has a master’s in Indigenous healing and trauma.

She started her career in child protection and has 10 years’ experience in the field, including managing the Aboriginal Child Protection Unit in the ACT.
