The Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet (PM&C) has been recognised for its work to support LGBTIQA+ inclusion in the workplace at the 2022 Australian Workplace Equality Index (AWEI) Awards.

Celebrating the accomplishment, PM&C said it was proud to be awarded bronze employer status in the AWEI Awards.

“The Awards recognise the impact and achievements of Australian organisations supporting LGBTIQA+ inclusion in the workplace,” the Department said.

“PM&C is thrilled to celebrate this achievement, and our ongoing commitment to inclusion.”

Pride Champion at PM&C, John Reid said it was a great achievement, “of which the Department is rightly proud.”

“It reflects the hard work done to date, but leaves us plenty of room for improvement and continued commitment to making PM&C a great place to work for everyone; a place where everyone can bring their whole selves to work,” Mr Reid said.

The Awards are based on the results of the Index, an evidence-based benchmarking tool that annually assesses workplaces in the progress and impact of LGBTQ+ inclusion initiatives.

In its 2022 Awards results booklet, AWEI said that although a larger number of organisations received Bronze recognition this year, the work that was required to achieve Bronze should not be underestimated.

“This is a substantial recognition that acknowledges a great deal of LGBTQ inclusion activity over the assessed year,” AWEI said.

“Employers that receive this recognition are considered active in LGBTQ inclusion as compared to the national benchmark for the assessed year,” it said.

“Bronze Employers typically sit between the top 20–50 per cent of scores obtained.”

Other Commonwealth Government entities recognised at this year’s AWEI Awards include the Australian Broadcasting Corporation and Services Australia, which both took home Gold; the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation, Department of Agriculture, Water and the Environment, and Department of Health, taking home Silver; and the Australian Securities & Investments Commission (ASIC), Department Home Affairs and the Australian Border Force, and the Department of Social Services, which took Bronze.
