The Department of Education has announced that a number of public schools are to be revitalised as part of a program that addresses ageing school infrastructure.

The Department said 12 metropolitan and regional public schools are to receive upgrades to administration and toilet facilities.

It gave the example of Halls Creek District High School which is to have its administration area upgraded at a cost of $2.1 million.

“This upgrade will deliver welcome improvements at Halls Creek District High School, which opened in 1954, providing more areas for staff to meet with parents and external agencies, and a modern entrance to the school,” the Department said.

It said toilet upgrades would be carried out at the schools: Bridgetown High School; Dampier Primary School; Halidon Primary School; Mullaloo Heights Primary School; North Tom Price Primary School; Padbury Primary School; Paraburdoo Primary School; Southwell Primary School; Yule Brook College; South Thornlie Primary School and Walliston Primary School.

Minister for Education and Training, Sue Ellery said the Government was committed to improving public school infrastructure and ensuring staff and students were teaching and learning in the best possible facilities.

“I’m delighted that a dozen public schools will receive much-needed upgrades to their facilities that will benefit their communities now and in years to come,” Ms Ellery said.

“The upgrades to the administration building at Halls Creek District High School will no doubt receive a warm welcome from staff, students and parents, who will have more space for meetings, one-on-one discussions and other activities to support the school and its students in comfortable surroundings.”
