The opening of the new high school in Taylor has been pushed back to Term 1 of 2025, one year later than scheduled.

Issuing a statement on the delay, the Education Directorate reassured families that there were arrangements in place for students entering Year 7 next year.

“The delay is due to unavoidable impacts on the construction industry following the COVID-19 pandemic as well as adverse weather conditions over the past year,” the Directorate said.

“If your child is starting Year 7 in 2024, they can complete high school at their current Priority Enrolment Area (PEA) high school – Amaroo School or Gold Creek School,” it said.

“Please be assured that both schools have recently received upgrades to expand their capacity and will be able to accommodate all students.”

The Directorate said children in the PEA would be able to enrol in the new high school in Taylors for Year 8 in 2025, with enrolments to open in April next year.

It said the PEA for the new high school would be the same as the existing PEA for Margaret Hendry School, Taylor, Moncrieff and part of Jacka (North of Appleford Ave).

“Families living in the PEA are guaranteed a place at their local school,” the Directorate said.

It said a dedicated team would be assigned to assist any students transferring to Taylor high school for their Year 8 studies in 2025.
