Godsmack are a hard rock band from Boston USA and Surrender is the first release from them in four years.

The band has been around for 20 years or so and achieved considerable success in that time.

They’ve had eleven number one singles and four of them came from the band’s last album, When Legends Rise (2018), which reached number one on the US Hard Rock, Rock, and Alternative charts, and was Gold-certified.

In addition to the 11 number one singles they’ve achieved, another 20 tracks have made the Top 10 and they’ve gained Grammy Award nominations as well as being named Billboard Music Awards Rock Artists of the Year in 2001.

So far, they’ve released seven studio albums and sold more than 20 million records worldwide; Godsmack (1998), Awake (2000), Faceless (2003), IV (2006) The Oracle (2010) 1000hp (2014) and When Legends Rise (2018).

Surrender is the first single from their new, as yet untitled, album and I am yet to receive a release date for the album.

Guitarist and vocalist, Sully Erna, describes Surrender as follows:

“It’s a very cut and dry song. It’s simply about the exhaustion we can feel in relationships at times… At a certain point… we submit to putting aside who’s right and who’s wrong, we just want it to stop so we put up the white flag.”

Despite their longevity I have not heard a lot of Godsmack’s music but I have to say that this single is impressive.

It’s melodic rock with a hard edge and it’s a combination that I like.
