SA Health has announced that it has teamed up with the Department for Education to launch a raft of primary school pop-up vaccination hubs to increase COVID-19 vaccinations in five to 11-year-old students.

Announcing the 40 pop-up clinics, Chief Public Health Officer, Nicola Spurrier said the COVID-19 vaccination program would begin this Friday (27 May) and operate in 10 schools per week, on Fridays and Saturdays only, over four weeks.

Professor Spurrier said the walk-in hubs would be repeated in a further nine weeks for second doses.

In a letter to parents and caregivers, Professor Spurrier said COVID-19 vaccines would be offered to students, family members and the community.

“Vaccinations will be available 12.00pm to 5.00pm on a Friday to enable parents/guardians and siblings to attend at school pick up times and during Out of School Hours Care (OSHC), and 10.00am to 4.30pm on a Saturday to provide another opportunity for students, families and the wider community to receive their COVID-19 vaccination, regardless of which dose they’re due to receive,” she said.

“Bookings will not be required.”

Professor Spurrier said students must have a parent or legal guardian present and provide consent to receive their COVID-19 vaccination.

“Anyone aged 16 years and above can provide their own consent at the Saturday Community Day clinics,” she said.

“If your child misses one or both vaccinations at school, you can book at an SA Health vaccination clinic, GP or pharmacy.

“I would like to thank you and your family for taking steps to protect your child, yourself, and our community against COVID-19.”
