New mobile jobs board opened by APSC

Members of the Australian Public Service looking for a professional scenery change could find more opportunities to do so with the launch of a new digital tool from the Australian Public Service Commission (APSC).

Announcing its new mobility jobs board on APSJobs, the Commission said the tool would help Commonwealth workers find opportunities to expand their skills.

“Mobility can be a valuable part of continuous learning, by delivering diverse on-the-job experiences and the opportunity to make new connections,” the APSC said.

“A mobility-focused jobs board is now available on APSJobs,” it said.

“It will advertise temporary moves (secondments, temporary transfers or micro-assignments) to current Commonwealth employees.”

The APSC said the jobs board would help Public Servants who wanted to broaden their experience and take the next step in their career; who were interested in how other parts of Government worked; who needed people in a hurry or secondees rather than permanent employees; or who wanted to find new ways to support development of their staff.

The Commission said mobility could be achieved through secondments, temporary transfers, leave without pay arrangements, and even informal verbal agreements between organisations.

“Employees often move locations as part of these arrangements, but it’s also possible for moves to be virtual,” it said.

The mobility jobs board is part of the Commission’s Delivering for Tomorrow: APS Workforce Strategy 2025, launched in March last year, which outlines a one-APS approach to managing the Commonwealth workforce with a focus on mobilising capability and developing the capabilities that the public sector needs more of.

Also part of the Workforce Strategy is the APS Mobility Framework, which offers guidance to APS employees and managers on temporary moves within the sector.
