Jordan’s Government has announced far-reaching plans to restructure its Public Service with the merging of a number of Ministries and other public institutions.

Prime Minister, Bisher Khasawneh said the aim was “an effective and empowered public sector that would improve Jordan and the wellbeing of its citizens”.

Mr Khasawneh (pictured) said the Committee to Modernise the Public Service, which he heads, had produced a roadmap that identified seven aspects as “a paramount priority” for improvement and modernisation.

“These include Government services; procedures and digitalisation; organisational structure and governance; policy-making and decision-making; human resources; legislation, and institutional culture,” Mr Khasawneh said.

State Minister for Media Affairs, Faisal Shboul said the committee had produced a trans-governmental 10-year plan, in line with Jordan’s Economic Modernisation Vision.

“This modernisation system is the largest in the history of the Kingdom and its findings follow six months during which more than 100 meetings were held and thousands of documents reviewed,” Mr Shboul said.

He noted that one of the most important decisions was the establishment of the Ministry of Education and Human Resources Development through merging the Ministry of Education with the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research.

“The new Ministry will serve as an umbrella for the development of human resources in terms of academic, vocational and technical education, and higher education,” Mr Shboul said.
