The Department of Finance has invited a call for public feedback on its current Disability Access and Inclusion Plan (DAIP) which ends this year.

The feedback is to assist the Department develop a new five-year plan.

In a statement, the Department said a key purpose of the DAIP was to ensure Finance was providing for equality of access, opportunity and participation for people with disability, their families and carers.

It said that message was reinforced by the Director General of the Department of Finance, Jodi Cant who said that as a Central Government Agency that serviced the community, it was imperative that Finance had representation from a variety of people within that community.

“We are focused on improving our workplace diversity — recruiting staff from multiple generations, ethnic backgrounds and people with disabilities,” Ms Cant (pictured) said.

“This will encourage us to be more agile and innovative in our thinking, and bring different perspectives, experiences and knowledge together to build exemplar performance.”

She said the DAIP was a key component of the Department’s broader diversity objectives and set out its commitment to providing equal access, opportunity and participation for people with disability, their families and carers.

“This plan builds on our previous success through the continued promotion of access and inclusion initiatives and awareness of matters impacting those with a disability within the workplace,” Ms Cant said.

“We are committed to achieving the outcomes included in this plan, which will foster an inclusive and non-discriminatory work environment within Finance and also have flow-on financial and occupational benefits to those with a disability, their families and the broader community.”
