Fighting words

Start the conversation

Kicking off this week with a special mention of the New South Wales Environment Protection Authority which has gone to brain-tickling ends to ensure the State’s garbage collection policies tip an unmistakable message on citizens and policymakers alike that unwanted rubbish is not our friend, but our enemy!

Combining the two functions of waste avoidance and resource recovery, NSW EPA has led the charge in its anagrammatic battle for waste cleanliness and campaign unforgettability by enlisting its policy as the ‘Waste Avoidance and Resource Recovery’ strategy.

And there’s no prize for noting that even at its friendliest, the strategy stands for WARR!

Maths matters?

Stumbled across an interesting report in one of the outside media recently which compared the megawatt output of a brand new solar energy plant in the ACT with a similar plant commissioned just four years ago.

“At 100MW, it is four times bigger than (the older plant) which, when it was built in 2014 was touted as Australia’s largest at 20MW,” the earnest news report reported.

Far be it from PS-sssst! to suggest we know anything about MWs or solar energies but we do know a tiny bit about maths.

Since when has 100 been 4 times bigger than 20?

Have we missed something? Is inflation to blame or is it global warming?

Fabulous book prizes on offer for the most interesting explanation of the (new?) relationship between 20 and 100.

Alerts alert!

To a sad fact of life now with the regrettable news that PS News’s popular email “Alerts” that advise our beloved readers of valuable conferences, training courses and other special events of great interest are to be no more.

After years of building the Alerts into respected and valued messages for PS staffers all over the nation, the concept has fallen into the hands of the scammers and shysters who, despite having no link to PS News, have devalued the value of the otherwise valued messages by sending them out en mass and en la nose!

PS News will still circulate information from the many respected and professional organisations it deals with but will no longer refer to them as the now unreliable ‘Alerts’.

So be alert: Email Alerts are not from PS News.

In the meantime, should a dodgy email Alert cross your screen, feel free to forward it to our scam catching unit ([email protected]) where we will confine it to a safe place and make sure it doesn’t see the light of day again.

What? More news?

And while on matters PS Newsy, current affairs aficionados amongst us will be thrilled to learn that PS News’s online directory to all the leading news outlets around Australia and the world of new Australians has been restored and is receiving visitors in the new News section of PS News.

Thriving on clicks to ‘National News’ under the News brand, the resurrected register of reliable media outlets is a free source of all the latest news worth calling news as reported in local and international newspapers as well as other trustworthy news and information services including, of course, our own ABC.

Now there’s no excuse for not being tragically up-to-date.

Giveaway gets out of jail

To Rama Gaind’s weekly giveaway now in which two lucky PS News readers stand to win a copy each of the inspirational book The Prisoner: How One Woman’s Jail Term Was The Making Of Her by Kerry Tucker with Craig Henderson.

To hand over the books to their new owners, all Rama needed to know was the number of years Kerry spent in jail.

The two readers who knew her time was 4.5 years and whose entries were first to escape from the PS News Barrel of Booty were George K from the Australian Federal Police and Jean N from the Federal Department of Human Services.

Congratulations to George and Jean and thanks to everyone who took part. The books will be on their way to their new owners very soon.

In the meantime, for another chance to secure a place in Rama’s long line of all-dancing, all-singing giveaway winners simply visit this week’s competition here and take your chances.

Its free and its fun, so good luck to all who do.

Till next week…..
