Kyrenia (Girne) is a city on the north coast of Cyprus, known for its cobblestoned old town and horseshoe-shaped harbor.

The major union representing Public Servants in Cyprus is proposing a four-day working week to apply during the summer months of July and August.

General Secretary of the Pancyprian Guild of Civil Servants, Stratis Matthaiou said where a Department must remain open to provide services to the public, employees might work on a rotating basis.

“During this period many citizens are on vacation, so the workload is very light,” Mr Matthaiou said.

He also advocated that officers with special circumstances, such as mothers with young children, be allowed to work reduced hours, leaving work two hours earlier for six months and receiving proportional pay.
