The Department of the Premier and Cabinet has released a new draft Multicultural Charter for South Australia and has invited everyone to provide feedback on it.

The Department said the Charter was a key action from the South Australian Multicultural Act 2021 which came into operation on 2 December 2021 and contains principles that will guide policy development and help inform service delivery across the State.

It said the new draft Charter was developed in consultation with a working group including South Australian Multicultural Commission members as well as representatives from leading multicultural organisations, universities, Government and the community.

The Department said that once it was complete, the new Multicultural Charter will help organisations promote understanding and respect through increased cultural awareness and implementing diversity and inclusion strategies.

“We want to hear your feedback on the draft,” the Department said.

“Your voice and input will help inform and finalise the first South Australian Multicultural Charter,” it said.

“Consultation is being conducted through in-person and online forums and an online survey through YourSAy. Written submissions can also be made by post or email.”

The Department said consultation would be open until 30 November, with forums to be held throughout November.

It said members of the South Australian Multicultural Commission, the leading advisory body on multicultural affairs, will lead the in-person and online consultations, with the support of its Multicultural Affairs unit.
