The Department of Energy and Public Works has launched a new online search tool that compares postcodes across the State to uncover which areas have the most residential rooftop solar.

By accessing the tool, residents can find out where their postcode ranks.

Premier, Annastacia Palaszczuk said more than 722,000 Queensland homes and families now include solar in their future.

“Together, Queensland’s homes account to over 3.5 GW capacity, that’s more generation capacity than our two largest power stations combined (Gladstone 1,680MW, Stanwell 1,460MW),” Ms Palaszczuk said.

“I want to thank every Queenslander who has helped lower electricity prices and our carbon footprint by installing solar panels on their home.”

Deputy Premier, Steven Miles said a new solar system was being connected every 11 minutes in the State.

“Queensland not only leads the nation but also the world in rooftop solar,” Dr Miles said.

“While rooftop solar supplied 8.9 per cent of Queensland’s total energy needs last financial year, in the middle of the day it can represent more than 40 per cent of generation.”

Minister for Energy, Mick de Brenni said Bundaberg’s 4670 postcode topped not only Queensland, but the national solar stakes, with more than 15,600 solar households.

“This is followed by the 4655 postcode at Hervey Bay, the second highest in Queensland, with more than 14,000 solar households,” Mr de Brenni said.

“Caloundra and Toowoomba are in third and fourth position, respectively.”

Bundaberg has come out on top.

Residents can search for their postcode using the online tool at this PS News link.
