The Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA) is undertaking a review of its National Consultation Framework and has invited feedback from veterans and their families on how the ex-service community is consulted and engaged, and how it might be improved.

According to the Minister for Veterans’ Affairs, Darren Chester DVA’s National Consultation Framework is formally reviewed every three years to assess its ongoing effectiveness and its relevance to the evolving ex-service community.

Mr Chester said the views of the serving and ex-service community were essential as the Department continued to change to ensure veterans and their families could access the services they needed, when they needed them.

“Along with DVA, ex-service organisations have played a critical role in supporting veterans and their families for more than 100 years, and this review ensures their changing views and requirements are heard,” Mr Chester said.

“I encourage all those in the ex-service community to participate and provide their feedback,” he said.

Mr Chester said the review aimed to facilitate veterans and families to voice their needs to the DVA though forum structures, membership of various forums, appropriate representation on forums and capacity of member organisations.

Repatriation Commissioner Don Spinks, responsible for Veteran Engagement at DVA, said everyone’s suggestions would be heard and would play an important role informing the future consultation model.
