Public Sector Commissioner, Sharyn O’Neill (pictured) has been chosen as an Honorary Fellow of Leadership WA.
The Fellowship, announced during Leadership WA’s awards night, recognises Ms O’Neill’s support for the organisation, her commitment to the development of leaders across the public sector and her efforts in steering the State through the COVID-19 pandemic and into its recovery.
In a statement, Leadership WA said Ms O’Neill joined former Governor of Western Australia, Kerry Sanderson and the Chair of Woodside, AFL, Qantas and Telethon, Richard Goyder as Fellows.
In accepting the award, Ms O’Neill gave an insight into her own leadership journey throughout different stages of her life and the impact of the experiences on her mindset.
She emphasised her passion for public good and spirit of public service which was founded in her early career as a teacher in regional and remote Western Australian schools.
“My early experience shifted my mindset to be part of the solution to serve children and the public better,” Ms O’Neill said.
“When faced with adversity, it is how you respond that sets you apart.”
Ms O’Neill advised that people should not try to lead alone.
“It is just so important to bring people along with you. Leadership in isolation is not only lonely, it’s dangerous,” she said.
