The Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety has announced that its mental health and wellbeing inspectors have developed a series of podcasts aimed at supporting the mental health of people in the workplace.
In a statement, the Department said the concepts presented in the podcasts would help workplaces to discuss, consult, plan and operate in a safe and efficient manner.
However, it stressed that the podcasts were not a substitute for, nor constitute, proper training.
“Training should address the concepts presented in the podcasts and ensure recipients have the necessary knowledge and understanding to operate in a safe and efficient manner,” the Department said.
Subjects dealt with in the podcasts include: Risk Management Process; Applying the Hierarchy of Control to Psychosocial Hazards and Risk Factors; Investigating Psychosocial Hazards and Harm to Health; Preventing and Managing Inappropriate or Unreasonable Workplace Behaviour, and Workplace Bullying for Employees.
The podcasts are also available in transcript form.
The Department said that a series of videos on mentally healthy workplaces had been developed.
The subjects of these were: What Can You Contribute; Addressing Mental Health Stigma and Case Study.
The Department said it accepted no responsibility and disclaimed all liability for any loss, damage, and/or costs incurred as a result of any reliance upon the information contained within the podcasts.
