ACT Policing has announced its officers are to be patrolling more public places as warmer weather approaches and people start to spend more time outside.
Head of ACT Policing’s COVID-19 Taskforce, Detective Superintendent Hall O’Meagher said now was not the time to become complacent about COVID-19 rules and restrictions.
“The ACT community has responded well to the restrictions; however, as summer approaches with more venues and events opening, a greater number of the community will venture outside,” DS O’Meagher said.
“Now is not the time for complacency, there are still a number of health directions in place and we should all be continuing to take all necessary precautions to keep our community safe,” he said.
“In most cases people are doing the right thing when visiting venues.”
DS O’Meagher said there was plenty of space for friends and families to spread out and enjoy each other’s company outside of venues.
“So let’s stay 1.5 metres apart wherever possible and remain COVID-19 safe,” he said.
He said ACT Policing had conducted 969 quarantine checks in the past week, which brought the total number to more than 15,600 during the Territory’s pandemic response.
