Service SA is encouraging members of the mySAGOV online system for dealing with the Government to double their degree of security with a second line of protection.

The Agency said the SMS Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) was now available for mySAGOV, andf would add an extra layer of security to online accounts.

“By enabling 2FA on your mySAGOV account, you are increasing your online security,” Services SA said.

“This means that even if someone has access to your log in information, your account will remain secure,” it said.

“Every time you log in to your mySAGOV account, you’ll need to enter your password, and you’ll be prompted to enter a verification code that is sent to you,” Service SA said.

“You can choose how you’d like to receive your verification code: Via text message to your mobile phone number or via an authenticator app of your choice.

It said people could set up 2FA now by logging in to their mySAGOV account at My account > Set up two-factor authentication.

It advised members that a strong password was an important part of keeping their information safe online.

“We’ve updated our password requirements (so) if your password doesn’t meet the new complexity requirements, you’ll be asked to create a stronger password next time you log in.

It said the things to remember when creating a new password are to: Create a strong and unique password that you’ll remember; Don’t use the same password for different online accounts; and Store your password safely.

Readers requiring further information about the changes can access the mySAGOV website at this PS News link.
