Kings Park and Botanic Garden is seeking applications for its Horticultural and Arboricultural Trainee Program in 2022.

In a statement, the Agency said the positions offered a prestigious work environment and fantastic learning opportunities in the world-class Western Australian Botanic Garden and Kings Park’s parkland precincts.

“We invite people from all walks of life and with a passion for the cultivation of Western Australian flora, along with a willingness to learn and be challenged, to apply,” it said.

“Two successful horticulture applicants will gain excellent on-the-job training in many different aspects of best-practice horticulture of Western Australian plants, working with our teams in the Western Australian Botanic Garden and Kings Park parkland areas, covering nursery, arboriculture, seeds and land management.”

Training Coordinator at Kings Park, Amanda Shade said one arboriculture trainee would work with a dynamic team throughout Kings Park and Bold Park caring for the important collection of trees.

“They will develop skills in modern amenity tree care, including tree surgery, climbing and tree health treatments,” Ms Shade said.

“Trainees will experience on-the-job training and a comprehensive in-house training program, complemented by formal study.”

The Training Coordinator said a dedicated and highly experienced team of Kings Park and Bold Park staff would oversee the trainees’ learning and development, offering invaluable opportunities for on-the-job mentoring, work experience, field trips and individually-tailored special projects.

“Trainees have been part of the work culture in Kings Park for more than 50 years and fit in well with qualified staff,” she said.

“Past trainees have taken up diverse job offers, from Local Councils and schools to landscaping businesses and nurseries, while others have opted for further study,” Ms Shade said.

Applications close on 25 October.
