The Electoral Commission of South Australia (ECSA) is recruiting Assistant Returning Officers (ARO) for the 2022 State Election.

The Commission said there were multiple vacancies available for prospective employees with the chosen AROs providing support to Returning Officers.

It said the recruits’ duties included establishing and setting up the Returning Officer Office; managing receipt and delivery of election materials; assisting with polling booth and mobile polling arrangements; assisting with recruitment and training of electoral officers; and the receipt, handling and preliminary scrutiny of postal and declaration votes.

The ECSA said it employed over 7,000 temporary staff to help deliver elections of the Government.

It said while most work was done on polling day, employees were also needed for short-term roles in the lead up to an election to assist with a range of activities, such as early voting and processing postal vote applications.

The ECSA said the next State Election would be held in March 2022 and Local Government periodic elections would take place in November 2022.

The Commission said it was committed to creating an inclusive workforce that reflected community diversity and was an equal opportunity employer.

It said Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People, the culturally and linguistically diverse and people living with disability were strongly encouraged to apply.

The ECSA said potential ARO applicants should read through the information pack on the Commission’s website to find out more about the role.

The ARO applications close on Monday 19 July and details can be accessed at this PS News link.
