Canberra community groups are being called on to participate in Floriade’s 34th year which is to bring a burst of colour to town centres and suburbs across the Territory.
Minister for Tourism, Andrew Barr said Floriade Community was introduced last year as part of Floriade: Reimagined and saw more than 80 community groups plant bulbs and annuals to help create a tulip trail through Canberra’s suburbs.
“It was welcomed by the community and the Government committed to continuing it,” Mr Barr said.
“This year there will be an additional 300,000 bulbs and annuals available for the community to plant and enjoy,” he said.
“For locals and visitors alike, Floriade will also return to Commonwealth Park from 11 September – 10 October with a spectacular floral display of over 1,000,000 bulbs and annuals.”
Mr Barr said Floriade’s return to its home in Commonwealth Park would help drive visitation to the city.
The Minister said the scale and format of Floriade at Commonwealth Park would be announced in the coming months, following consultation with the Chief Health Officer to ensure the event was COVID-safe.
He said the Territory was calling on local community groups, attractions, sporting clubs, churches, aged care facilities, medical centres and Floriade sponsors to apply for the Floriade Community program by 9 May.
