Feedback invited on Braddon facelift

The City Renewal Authority is calling for feedback on a new streetscape design concept for Lonsdale Street in Braddon.

The Authority said the draft streetscape design sought to make Lonsdale Street more accessible, attractive and safer for local businesses, residents and visitors to enjoy.

It said the changes would include an intersection upgrade at Girrawheen Street; widened verges at Cooyong Street intersection; two landscaped mid-block pedestrian crossings at key intersections; the protection of existing trees; new urban art at each location; new paving; improved lighting; and more street furniture, bike racks and litter bins.

“To complement these works, Braddon will also receive a decorative lighting upgrade to Lonsdale Street’s median trees by mid-year,” the Authority said.

“This upgrade, which will be partially funded by the City Renewal Authority and partially by the City Centre Marketing and Improvements Levy, will ensure the precinct continues to be a prime destination for visitors and support the region’s night economy,” it said.

The Authority said the upgrade aimed to improve the amenity and appeal of Braddon by making it more pedestrian friendly; improving visitor experience; increasing opportunities for alfresco dining; and improving pedestrian connections from the city to Haig Park.
