Fee rise to make parking a sweet sorrow

The price of ACT Government parking permits is to be increased from 1 July in line with the wage price index.

Announcing the increase, City Services said it will apply to all ACT Government parking permits.

“The parking permit scheme is designed to facilitate priority parking for medical practitioners, Government officials, loading zone use and residents with historical parking permit arrangements,” City Services said.

“The price increase will be applied to parking permit fees, parking permit transaction fees and parking permit cancellation fees.”

It said resident’s parking permits, which are issued for four areas in the ACT, were being phased out because they were not a “fair and equitable approach” to allocating highly sought-after public parking spaces.

The Directorate said Government parking fees would not increase for the 2022/23 financial year, with the exception of a $1 per semester increase for pre-paid all-day parking tickets for Canberra Institute of Technology (CIT) students.

It said the changes to pay parking fees were based on an increase of wage price index, rounded to the nearest whole dollar amount.

City Services said the wage price index was 3.25 per cent for 2022/23.

“Due to the calculation being rounded, pay parking fees will not increase in 2022/23,” it said.
