Commuters in the State capital are to pay more for public transport, with Adelaide Metro announcing an increase to fare prices.

In a statement, Adelaide Metro said the new fares, in effect from last Friday (1 July), would apply to all Adelaide Metro bus, train and tram services.

The Agency said a regular metroCard (rechargeable) would now cost $4.05 at peak times, up from $3.95, and $2.25 during off-peak times, up from $2.20.

It said a concession metroCard (rechargeable) would now cost $2.00 at peak times, up from $1.95, and $1.10 during off-peak times, up from $1.05, while student metroCards (rechargeable) would now be $1.40 for peak travel, up from $1.35 and $1.10 during off-peak times, up from $1.05.

Adelaide Metro said a Singletrip MetroTicket would now cost $5.95 during peak times and $4.00 for off-peak travel; a Daytrip MetroTicket $11.20; a 14-day pass on a metroCARD $64.50 – unlimited trips (19 per cent cheaper than 10 trips); and a 28-day pass on a metroCARD $107.00 – unlimited trips (19 per cent cheaper than 20 trips).

“An indexation rate of 2.5 per cent has been applied to fares and rounded to the nearest five cents,” Adelaide Metro said.

“The standard indexation rate takes into account a number of factors, including the Consumer Price Index (CPI),” it said.

Adelaide Metro said all passengers could travel cheaper using regular, concession or student metroCARDs rather than MetroTickets.

“There are even greater savings for frequent passengers using a 14-day or 28-day pass on their metroCARD,” it said.

The Agency said that, from 1 July, Seniors Card members could travel for free on Adelaide Metro buses, trains and trams all day, every day.
