The Electoral Commissioner has formally declared 137 candidates to contest the ACT Legislative Assembly election being held this month.
Electoral Commissioner Damian Cantwell said candidates would be vying for 25 Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) positions, with five positions available for each of the five electoral divisions.
“This election, we’ve tripled the number of early voting centres available across Canberra to 15 and we’re encouraging everyone to vote early and safely,” Mr Cantwell said.
He said a total of 129 candidates were nominated by registered political parties and an additional eight non-party candidates were nominated.
“There were 141 candidates at the previous ACT Legislative Assembly Election in 2016,” he said.
He said early voting was available every day for a three-week period, which began on Monday (28 September) and is to run until 16 October.
Mr Cantwell said voters could vote early at any polling place in the ACT, regardless of the electorate they’re enrolled in
“Election day voting will take place as usual at 82 polling locations across ACT on Saturday 17 October, including at several school or community halls,” he said.
