The Minister for Agriculture and Water Resources has congratulated fast food outlet Domino’s for being the first business of its kind to display his Department’s upgraded country of origin information on its website and app.
Minister David Littleproud said Domino’s was giving customers the chance to check the percentage of its products which were Australian in its core products.
“I asked fast food stores to give their customers country of origin information, and Domino’s delivered,” Mr Littleproud said.
“At a Country of Origin Labelling Roundtable on 2 May — which included McDonalds, Subway, KFC and Domino’s — major fast food outlets agreed to put country of origin information on their websites and apps.”
He said this gave customers the chance to choose Australian.
“Aussies deserve to know which products are Australian, especially as so many Australians use country of origin as a gauge of food quality,” Mr Littleproud said.
“Domino’s is the first fast food provider to follow through with this information and I hope the others get a slice of the action soon.”
New country of origin labelling requirements became mandatory for most foods on 1 July.
Low-priority food including highly processed confectionery and snacks, tea, coffee, alcohol and other beverages are not subject to the legislation.
