Happy news this week that the Queen’s former Governor-General, Michael Jeffery (pictured) is to rejoin Her Majesty’s public sector soon in a role as the nation’s National Soils Advocate.
The new position will see the former army Major-General raising awareness of the importance to conserve and improve the nation’s agricultural soils and landscapes for farmers present and future.
And who better, PS-sssst! wonders, to be given the job of protecting the country’s soils than a decorated army leader?
They don’t call them ‘diggers’ for nothing!
The wheel thing!
To good news being made by PS News itself now with one of Australia’s best-known motoring writers joining the editorial team to bring the very latest in on-road information onto the desks of our many readers who like to live in the fast lane.

Saddle up
While on the vehicular front, bike riders have been invited to join in ‘National Ride2Work Day’ next week (Wednesday) on which as many people as possible ride to work on a bike of some description.
Interestingly the organisation organising the event all across the country goes by the name the ‘Bicycle Network’.
PS-ssssst! wonders why, with just a little bit of imagination, they don’t call themselves the ‘Bicycle Chain’?
Walking distance
Good news from one of the nation’s newest institutional attractions now with the National Arboretum in Canberra announcing an extension of its network of pathways to make visits to the 60 forests and other attractions at the arboretum much easier for descending tree huggers
Announcing the new and lengthy walkways, the arboretum’s PR agents went to great lengths themselves to ensure the message came across.
“An extra 12 kilometres of tracks and trails have been added to the National Arboretum Canberra….” the promoters proclaimed.
“The new multi-use, multi-directional tracks and trails will better connect the Arboretum to surrounding areas…”
Point made and a good point it is, but PS-sssst! sees a point missing!
What is defining difference between “tracks and trails”?
Book giveaway
Another week, another giveaway and this week the ever-generous Rama has two copies of the novel Real Differences by S.L. Lim to give away and add to two lucky readers’ bookcases.
To score a prize book, all we needed to do was answer Rama’s easy quiz question which asked how old Ms Lim was when she left Singapore to call Australia home.
The answer is one year old and the resourceful readers with the first two correct answers to escape from the PS News Barrel of Booty were Scott M from the Federal Department of Health, and Sasha B from the NSW Department of Family and Community Services.
Congratulations to Scott and Sasha and thanks to all who took part. The prize books will be on their winners’ way in a popular PS-ssst! Pack – a Book, a Pen light and a T-shirt – very shortly.
For another chance to give chance a chance, simply follow this link to Rama’s current contribution and you too could be a lucky winner.
Good luck!
