The ACT Health Directorate is to appoint a Community Reference Group to ensure local voices are heard in the planning and development of the new state-of-the-art healthcare facility at Canberra Hospital.
Minister for Health, Rachel Stephen-Smith said that a s enabling works commenced on the new Surgical Procedures, Interventional Radiology and Emergency Centre (SPIRE) Project, nominations were invited from community members interested in helping to shape the project’s planning, design and construction.
“We know there are a range of issues that are particularly important to the local community, including, safety and traffic arrangements and the way the building looks and feels,” Ms Stephen-Smith said.
“This group will enable the SPIRE Project team to work directly with the community to receive their valuable input and to address issues as they arise.
“By working together with clinicians, consumers and the local community we can deliver an emergency, surgical and critical healthcare facility at Canberra Hospital that is technologically advanced, fit-for-purpose and meets the needs of our growing and ageing community,” she said.
“This is an exciting step forward in the delivery of the SPIRE Project and brings us one step closer to delivering even better healthcare for all Canberrans,” Ms Stephen-Smith said.
Expressions of interest for those interested in being part of the community consultation group will close on Thursday 12 December, with the inaugural meeting of the group set to be held early next year.
