Queenslanders are being encouraged to put forward nominations for the 2024 Australian of the Year Awards, celebrating those in the community who inspire through their outstanding achievements and positive impact on everyday life.

Premier, Annastacia Palaszczuk said Queenslanders show courage, sacrifice, and kindness, and continually make a difference by empowering and enriching others and creating change for the better.

These awards celebrate people doing remarkable work to improve our communities, our State and our nation,” Ms Palaszczuk said.

“I encourage you to nominate the many unsung heroes, community leaders and positive role models who bring us together to celebrate our country, our heritage and our traditions.”

She said worthy recipients of an award my live in your street, your neighbourhood or volunteer at your local club — “it could be a family member, friend, work colleague or a champion in your community”.

“These awards are a valuable way to recognise inspiring people who make Queensland and Australia a better place each and every day,” the Premier said.

Individuals can be nominated in four award categories: Australian of the Year; Senior Australian of the Year (65 years of age or over); Young Australian of the Year (16 years of age to 30 years of age), and Australia’s Local Hero.

The Queensland recipients of the 2024 Australian of the Year Awards will be announced in November. These recipients will then represent the State at the national awards held on the eve of Australia Day 2024 in Canberra.
