Commission backs tool for PS integrity

The Public Sector Commission has published a new assessment tool to help Government entities assess and improve their approach to integrity.

PS Commissioner, Sharyn O’Neill said self-assessment was an important part of continuous improvement in any process or endeavour.

“The Integrity Framework Maturity Self-Assessment Tool helps public authorities identify the strengths and weaknesses of their current approach to integrity in relation to four levels of maturity,” Ms O’Neill ( pictured) said,” Emerging, Developing, Embedded and Excelling.”

“Using this tool will help authorities develop a plan to reach their desired level,” she said.

She said that ideally, the tool would be used to assess the current state of integrity across an entire authority.

“A position or functional area responsible for integrity or governance will coordinate the Authority’s assessment with relevant internal stakeholders,” Ms O’Neill said.

“In small authorities a member of the leadership group may conduct the assessment.”

She said that while assessing current maturity and setting desired maturity were important, they were not the tool’s main aim.

“Rather, understanding and committing to the actions and initiatives needed to progress to the desired state is the main aim,” she said.

“It is a positive step to undertake an assessment and make a plan for improvement where necessary.”

Ms O’Neill said the new tool was part of an integrated suite of resources that also include the Integrity Strategy for WA Public Authorities 2020-2023 and the Integrity Framework Template and Guide .
