CIT Woden’s design features on show

The latest design concepts for the new CIT campus in Woden’s Town Centre have been unveiled, with the community invited to have their say on new features of the campus.

Opening the consultation, the Minister for Skills, Chris Steel said the design responded to the need for shelter around the edge of the building as well as providing improved connectivity and safety around the new campus and interchange.

“We are proud to announce that the campus will include a hall at the centre of the main CIT building, and a large 575m² floor space to cater to a range of different events,” Mr Steel said.

“Two new public parks, intergenerational fitness equipment, together with more planting and canopy cover, will also see the heart of the Town Centre transformed,” he said.

“The ground floor is proposed to have activated ground floor spaces with a café and hair salon, and transparent training spaces showing CIT’s hands-on training.”

Mr Steel said the project represented a new era for CIT and the Woden community.

“It will deliver modern and high-quality educational facilities for around 6,500 CIT students as well as great new public and green spaces that everyone can enjoy,” he said.

He said Canberrans could now provide feedback on designs for the campus building and surrounding public spaces, which would inform the formal development application due to be submitted in November this year.

The Minister said people could also view the designs and speak to project representatives at the upcoming CIT Open Day at Bruce on Saturday (27 August).
