The Community Services Directorate has invited nominations for the 2019 Multicultural Awards and the ACT Multicultural Honorary Ambassador program.
Minister for Multicultural Affairs, Chris Steel said the awards celebrated individuals and organisations who had made a positive contribution to multiculturalism in the ACT.
“The Government is looking to recognise outstanding contributions made by people and organisations who promote and strengthen Canberra’s multicultural community either in a voluntary or paid capacity,” Mr Steel said.
“A vibrant multicultural community is essential to a thriving city, and we want to recognise the most outstanding contributions made to enhance multiculturalism.”
He said nominations for the Multicultural Awards could be made in four categories: Multicultural Individual Champion; Community Organisation (Multicultural Champion); Outstanding Excellence for Diversity and Inclusion, and
Multicultural Arts, Media or Culture.
“The Multicultural Honorary Ambassador Program also fosters multiculturalism in the ACT by recognising local residents who play an active role in promoting the ACT as a welcoming and inclusive city,” Mr Steel said.
“The program is about establishing people-to-people connections across cities and capitalising on Canberra’s cultural diversity. It will also create a strong link to the Territory’s International Engagement Strategy.”
He said the appointed Honorary Ambassadors would represent the Territory when travelling to one or more of the 10 target countries to promote local trade, education, investment and tourism opportunities.
The target countries were Singapore, China, New Zealand, United States, Japan, Indonesia, Malaysia, India, Thailand and South Korea.
Mr Steel said nominations for both of these initiatives close on 7 August.
