Safe Work Australia has announced that the theme for this year’s National Safe Work Month, to be held in October, is for every worker to Be a Safety Champion.

In a statement, Safe Work said that during National Safe Work Month it intends running public awareness initiatives on work health and safety and mental health.

“This year, we want to let everyone know that anyone can be a champion for work health and safety,” Safe Work Australia said.

“Anyone can be a safety champion — workers, employers and organisations, from any industry, can all champion work health and safety at their workplace every day.”

It said that being a leader for work health and safety and actively taking a role in supporting a strong health and safety culture was everyone’s business.

“Over the coming months Safe Work Australia will publish a range of resources on the National Safe Work Month website,” it said.

“We urge you to keep an eye out on our social media channels and sign up to our mailing list to get all the latest information.

“Everyone can promote and mobilise the values, attitudes and behaviour for work health and safety at any workplace in any industry, so this October Safe Work Australia encourages you to Be a Safety Champion.”
