CFA bleeds members for good cause

The Country Fire Authority (CFA) is calling on its members to roll up their sleeves for the Emergency Services annual blood drive.

Representatives from the CFA, Victoria Police, Ambulance Victoria, Victoria State Emergency Service (SES), Emergency Management Victoria and Fire Rescue Victoria came together on Thursday (2 June) to donate blood and launch the annual Emergency Services Blood Challenge.

Acting CFA Chief Officer, Garry Cook encouraged all CFA members to get behind the Challenge, stoking their competitive spirits to boost donation numbers.

“With 1,209 blood and plasma donations during the 2021 challenge from CFA members, we came second to Victoria Police by only 319 donations overall, so CFA are keen to take out top honours this year,” A/CO Cook said.

“The difference between CFA’s and the winning Victoria Police results amounted to only an additional three donations a day,” he said.

“It would not only be great if CFA can take home the trophy this year, but also know we’re helping an important cause to save lives.”

A/CO Cook said donating blood only took about 45 minutes, and as an emergency services Agency, CFA had seen first-hand how vital blood donations were.

“If you are eligible to donate, please do so at your convenience as it’s such an important cause,” he said.

The Acting Chief Officer said CFA members could take part in the blood donation challenge by registering through Life Blood and donating before 31 August.
