Know all!

Kicking off this week by spotlighting a most interesting article in the PS News ‘Women in Leadership’ section that injects an exciting new dimension into an age-old adage that up to now, has served the grizzled old world of cynicism admirably.

In her inspired article Reach for the sky: Career tips from women who made it to the top, clever creative strategist Kristi Faulkner takes aim at the revered advice “It’s not what you know but who you know” by adding an encouraging sliver of wisdom to the otherwise miserable and discouraging dictum.

According to Ms Faulkner, the pathway to progress, profit and prosperity is not only about who you know, but: “It’s about who you know, what you know, and who knows what you know.”

And she’s right.

It shouldn’t matter who we know or what we know as long as the people who should know what we do know knows we know it.

I think!

That is, I think I know. But who knows?

No licence to license

Never let it be said PS-sssst! knows when to stop nit-picking at an agency but last week’s shock-horror expose of the Australian Taxation Office’s “last thing we want to see” warning to illegal superannuation cadgers not to nibble at accounts before retirement also went on to shake our nit-picker into action by including the annoyingly agitating Americanisation of the common and long-established English word ‘Licence’.

Personalising its warning by painting a picture of potentially pressurised pensioner “John” as he is inveigled by a super filcher to play ball, the ATO puts it thus: “John also provides copies of his license and some other personal identification….”.

Cue the Oxford Living Dictionary where we find:

License. (Verb, with object). Grant a licence to.

And:

Licence: (Noun). A permit from an authority to own or use something, do a particular thing, or carry on a trade.

It would seem John wasn’t licensed to copy his licence in the first place.

Duchess encountered

To a right royal regal Rama giveaway now in which Ms Gaind has free DVD copies of the US-made romantic comedy movie Random Encounters co-starring the newest member of Her Majesty’s multicultural Royal Family, Meghan Markle up for dibs.

Offered to the first three readers who could correctly name the newly dubbed Duchess’s character in the film and then march out of the PS News Barrel of Booty ahead of the rest, the DVDs have been won by Janet A from the Queensland Residential Tenancies Authority, Simon G from Western Australia’s Department of Transport and Judith B from Queensland’s State Library, who all knew Her Highness played the commoner ‘Mindy’ in the show.

Congratulations to all the winners and thanks for everyone for taking part, including the Duchess of Sussex. The DVDs will be winging their way to their new owners soon.

For another chance to rub shoulders with Rama-style royalty and scoop up another giveaway, simply follow this PS News link and take your chances.

And jolly good luck to all who do. Hip hip!

But wait, there’s more….

And fresh from a certain marriage at St George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle in the UK, we stay with Lady Rama Gaind now for big news about this week’s record-breaking giveaway.

Lucky PS News readers have the chance to win one of a baker’s half-dozen of the rare and hard-to-get Blu Ray edition of a blockbuster movie celebrating 30 years of celluloid success this year.

“This is an accomplishment I don’t get often” panted the star-struck Rama announcing her coup.

“It’s quite a feat to have scored five BR copies of Die Hard for its 30th anniversary.”

Wow! Die Hard!

Double Wow!

So don’t just sit there, click on this link, answer Rama’s too-easy quiz question and get your entry into the PS News Barrel of Booty for the best possible chance of winning a copy of Blu-Ray Die Hard next week.

More good luck to those who do.

Managing management

And finally, preparations are under way to add another informative information service to the line-up of PS-friendly articles and stories in PS News with a special section to be set aside for managers from next week.

All going well, the new section will coincide with a number of minor improvements being made to the website to keep it reader-friendly, packed with PS information and news and continuing its service to the Public Service across the nation.

As usual we will be keen to know what you think of the new section when it arrives.

Until then…..
