Sweet news from Western Australia this week with the State Government announcing a state-of-the-art new program to help farmers make the most of their water supplies by dipping their toes in the latest of on-farm water management technology.
Announcing the new project, the WA government said farmers would be helped to adopt self-sufficient water supply systems and build long-term drought resilience.
“(The) project facilitates the rapid, widespread adoption of on-farm desalinisation plants …” it declared.
“The project seeks to optimise desalinisation technology…..”
But the Minister for Agriculture and Food was more frugal in her interpretation of the project, declaring it would “encourage on-farm initiatives to build drought resilience, particularly through desalination”.
Desalination or desalinisation?”
That ‘is’ the question.
The ABC of PR
An uninvited but highly interesting correspondence found its way to the busy PS-sssst! desk this week from globe-trotting Aussie journalist Hamish Thompson.
Hamish has plans to return home soon after many years away and to bring with him his uber-useful guide on ‘How Not To’ practice the processes of public relations, a popular pursuit in many a PS project.
In his own words: “For more than a decade I’ve been collecting and collating the gripes of editors, correspondents and on-air presenters about PR practice” Hamish declared.
“The Guide has become an unofficial training manual for PR teams in-house and in agencies worldwide.”
Hamish shared the address of his peripatetic manual (It’s free!) and in case a reader may like to read it, – or pass it around – it can be found at this PS News link.
And yes, Hamish does accept readers’ suggestions to add to his “How Not To’ PR Guide.

Starting next week, ‘PS of the PaSt’ will take us back 10 years to the pre-eminent PS news stories of 2011, revisiting the stories we hoped had gone away or revitalising those reports that made the past such a wonderful time to be a professional servant of the public.
