It’s great to hear from The Whitlams again. It’s been many years since we’ve had new material from the hugely talented Tim Freedman and this single is the first one lifted from The Whitlams forthcoming album which is due for release January 2022.
The Whitlams last studio album was Little Cloud way back in 2006 and the magnificent compilation album Truth, Beauty and a Picture of You was released in 2008 so, it‘s been a long wait for fans.
But the fans haven’t deserted them.
The Whitlams will be heading off on a 46-show national tour in August and September which is already nearly sold out.
They’ve added a 7th show in Melbourne and 8th in Brisbane to the list but if you intend going, you’d better get in quick.
Tim Freedman hasn’t lost his quirky sense of humour nor his ability to write a really catchy pop song.
You’re Making Me Feel Like I’m 50 Again is a rollicking reflection on life and love viewed through the prism of classic Freedman whimsy, with a touch of cynicism thrown in for good measure.
It follows in the footsteps of other humorous Whitlams tracks such asI Make Hamburgers and Thank You (For Loving Me At My Worst).
Romance and whimsey… Freedman is really a musical Michael Leunig.
The current line-up of the band has Tim Freedman on vocals, piano and keyboards being joined by Warwick Hornby on bass and backing vocals; Terepai Richmond on drums and backing vocals; and Jak Housden on guitar and backing vocals.
This line-up has been consistent since 1999 in the case of Hornby and Richmond and 2001 for Housden so even though 20 people have been a member of the band in its existence you could almost call this line-up ‘originals.’
