A series of Speak Out events are to form part of Queensland Youth Week from 10-to-18 April.
Minister for Youth Affairs, Meaghan Scanlon said Youth Week was the State’s opportunity to celebrate the young people of Queensland, their achievements and contributions.
“We’ve seen the impact COVID-19 has had on young people,” Ms Scanlon said, “and the strength they have shown as the pandemic severely disrupted their education and employment is a shining example of what they will be able to accomplish in the future.”
Young Queenslanders aged 15-to-25 are taking part in Youth Week events which will be held as follows: Mossman Gorge (near Port Douglas), 13 April, 9.30am-2pm Dreamtime Walk; Walkabout Creek, Brisbane, 14 April, 9am-2pm, assorted activities; Mt Etna Caves, Rockhampton, 16 April, 9am-3pm, tour through caves.
MP for Barron River, Craig Crawford said the events would include guided walks or experiences in Queensland’s national parks to help get the conversation going.
“We want to hear from young people in the far north about the things that matter to them,” Mr Crawford said.
“We need to hear their ideas about the challenges their local communities face and the future of our society, environment and culture.”
MP for Cook, Cynthia Lui said young people needed to be involved in the discussion if they wanted to help shape their own future.
“Queensland will be a stronger State if we include them in the decision-making process,” Ms Lui said.
