The NSW Department of Primary Industries’ (DPI) Young Farmer Business Program has launched an online toolkit to help young farmers and fishers improve how Work Health and Safety (WHS) is managed on their farms and in their fishing businesses.

Team Leader of the Young Farmer Business Program at DPI, Alexandra Hicks said the informative and practical resources provided a starting point for young producers to implement a WHS management system in their business.

“The toolkit includes videos and factsheets, created specifically for young farmers and fishers,” Ms Hicks said.

“The toolkit also links to existing industry templates developed by AgHealth Australia that young producers can download and use in their businesses,” she said.

“The induction, emergency planning and safety training templates are designed to be edited, which enables the producer to make the content relevant to their own business before sharing with staff and contractors.”

Ms Hicks said young producers could learn more about employee and contractor WHS inductions; emergency planning; safety training and competency; as well as the key steps involved in risk management and roles and responsibilities under WHS legislation.

The WHS tools and templates can be accessed via the Young Farmer Business Program website at this PS News link.
