The first ACT Women’s Budget Statement has been delivered by the Minister for Women, Yvette Berry, setting out a range of new and enhanced policies and programs aimed at improving the lives of women and girls in the ACT.
Ms Berry said the ACT Budget delivered additional funding to improve health outcomes; drive gender equality in work, sport and the community; and help make women safer and able to live their lives the way they wanted.
“This Budget provides important funding for services to prevent domestic and family violence and ensure that all women have access to legal assistance when they need it,” Ms Berry said.
“Alongside these initiatives, the priority for the rest of the year will be to work in closely with the community to develop actions that improve the lives of women and girls under the ACT Women’s Plan 2016-26.”
She said the Office for Women would continue to support women in the community through a number of services and initiatives.
These included the Women’s Information Service; the ACT Diversity Register; the Return to Work Grants program; and the Audrey Fagan programs including Leadership, Young Women’s Enrichment Grants and Board Traineeships.
The ACT Women’s Budget Statement is an action from the ACT Women’s Plan and this year is its first.
