The City Renewal Authority has called on Canberrans to abandon their winter hibernation plans and experience what the city has to offer during its annual Wintervention event.
Chief Executive of the City Renewal Authority, Malcolm Snow said Civic Square, in Canberra’s city centre, would once again be transformed into an open-air ice-skating arena from 25 June to 11 July over the school holiday period.
“No other mainland city around the country has a winter like Canberra with enchanting frosty mornings and snow-covered mountains visible from the city centre,” Mr Snow said.
“This event is a great chance to get out of our winter bunkers and experience what our city has to offer over the colder months,” he said.
“Whether you’re a skater or a spectator, Wintervention is a family-friendly event designed to embrace the Canberra chill around entertainment, activities, food and market stalls.”
Mr Snow said Wintervention markets would run across two weekends, 25-27 June and 2-4 July, and would welcome a range of fashion, art, craft and design stalls from local traders.
He said visitors could get some ice-skating inspiration with live performances from Stars on Ice every Friday and Saturday at 1.45pm and 6.45pm and every Sunday at 1.45pm and 4.45pm.
“Daily music performances, hot drinks and food stalls are available for the school holiday crowd,” he said.
“Local foodie favourites will be joining the frosty fun and provide tasty treats and beverages.”
Mr Snow said tickets for the ice rink were now on sale with prices ranging from $10 to $20 and family bundles available from $59.
