The National Parks and Wildlife Service’s (NPWS) new Visitor Centre at Warrumbungle National Park has been officially recognised for excellence in the NSW Regional Tourism Awards.

The Visitor Centre was chosen for a silver award last week.

NPWS Area Manager for Castlereagh, John Whittall said the award was a worthy recognition of the many hours of planning, designing and building done while continuing to meet the needs of park visitors.

“This award is recognition of the many hours of hard work put in to rebuilding the visitor centre,” Mr Whittall said.

“We’re so very proud of the result of the years of planning and work that has gone into this building by many NPWS staff and members of the local community,” he said.

“The result is an iconic building that is quite awe inspiring to visit, and which will attract and fascinate visitors for many years to come.”

He made special mention of the local visitor centre staff, saying that the work they put in on a daily basis was one of the reasons the centre received this recognition.

“Without their friendliness, knowledge and dedication this kind of recognition by our tourism industry peers wouldn’t be possible,” Mr Whittall said.

“It was particularly pleasing to be one of only a couple of tourist operators from our region to be recognised,” he said.

Mr Whittall and former Warrumbungle National Park Visitor Centre Manager, May Fleming travelled to Dubbo to attend the Tourism awards, joined by Northern Inland Visitor Experience Team Leader, Leah Pippos and Marketing representatives from NPWS, Susana Heraud and Melanie Sit.
