ACT Policing’s five stations across Canberra are offering limited Justice of the Peace services to support people during the COVID lockdown.

Program Manager of ACT Policing’s Volunteers in Policing, Detective Sergeant Sharan Slater said volunteers had returned to duty in stations in Gungahlin, Belconnen, Canberra City, Woden and Tuggeranong to allow urgent and essential Justice of the Peace services.

“Our ACT Policing volunteers are extremely dedicated to helping people at our stations, so we’re pleased that we can offer Justice of the Peace services within these restricted circumstances,” Detective Sgt Slater said.

“People requiring urgent witnessing of documents must book ahead via (02) 5126 9121,” she said.

“No ‘walk-ins’ without a booking will be permitted for document requests, to allow the stations to continue operating under COVID safe rules.”

Detective Sgt Slater said not all requests for Justice of the Peace services would be accepted for booking to ensure the service remained available for urgent and essential matters.

The Program Manager said volunteers would be wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and would take other safety precautions during the appointments.

“When you enter the station, please follow the signage for instructions – sanitise and use the Check In CBR app,” she said.

Detective Sgt Slater said the Justice of the Peace services would be available in stations from 10.00am to 2.00pm, Monday to Friday.

She reminded the community that police stations remained accessible for urgent and time critical police matters.
