Volunteers invited to talk about volunteers

Volunteers across the State are being called to help shape the future of NSW’s volunteer recruitment, retention and recognition by sharing their views about how it’s working and if it could be improved.

The call is part of the appointment of a Ministerial Volunteer Taskforce, established by the Minister for Disability Services, Natasha Maclaren-Jones, earlier this year.

Mrs Maclaren-Jones said the Taskforce had been established to identify emerging trends, issues and opportunities across the volunteer sector and as a way of supporting NSW’s volunteering community.

“The Ministerial Volunteer Taskforce is looking at the future of volunteering and I hope this consultation period will bring in as many voices as possible to help shape the future of the sector,” Mrs Maclaren-Jones said.

“We deeply value the efforts of our volunteers and their incredible spirit of service,” she said.

“Every day across our state volunteers work selflessly to contribute to the community and support others.”

Mrs Maclaren-Jones said she wanted to make sure volunteers were well-supported, recognised and empowered.

Chair of the Ministerial Volunteer Taskforce, Scott Farlow called for all areas of the sector to take part in the consultation process.

“Hearing from the sector is vital,” Mr Farlow said.

“From volunteers and volunteer-involving organisations to businesses that work with the volunteering sector, researchers and academics, we want to ensure all volunteers are heard,” he said.

“The consultation process will contribute to the Taskforce’s report that will examine a range of topics including volunteer recruitment, retention, research, recognition and supporting our volunteers.”

Mr Farlow said the Taskforce’s consultation phase would be open until 5pm on 30 September.
