A record number of voters will have their say in this year’s State election according to the Victorian Electoral Commission (VEC) which has enrolled almost 4.4 million voters.
Deputy Electoral Commissioner Dana Fleming said 4,394,465 Victorians enrolled to vote, creating an average of 49,937 voters per district, and 549,308 voters per region.
“The VEC estimates that nine million ballot papers will be printed, more than three million pencils will be used and more than 100,000 cardboard items (including voting screens and ballot boxes) will be required to deliver the election,” Ms Fleming said.
She said despite over 1,600 voting centres to open on Saturday 26 November, the VEC was expecting many Victorians would choose to vote early.
Ms Fleming said that for the first time, the VEC’s early voting centres we offering extended early voting hours on weeknights and a Saturday in response to voter demand.
“You don’t need a reason to vote early – you can choose which ever option is most convenient and suits your needs,” the Deputy Commissioner said.
“You could vote at an early voting centre or apply for a postal vote,” she said.
“If you want to vote by post you need to apply before 6pm on Wednesday 23 November.”
Ms Fleming said 155 early voting centres were now open across the State.
“For voters who need assistance to vote, such as people who are blind, have low vision, or those who have a physical disability and require assistance to vote, we have options including telephone-assisted voting or accessing the Convo app at a voting centre,” she said.
