The Molonglo Valley has been decorated with almost two dozen new Neighbourhood Watch signs throughout Wright and Coombs as a focus on safety for the local community.
MLA for Murrumbidgee, Bec Cody said the Suburban Land Agency’s Mingle community development program teamed up with Neighbourhood Watch to highlight safety for the people of the valley.
“Everyone deserves to live in a safe environment and this initiative is a fantastic step towards supporting the community,” Ms Cody said.
“Neighbourhood Watch ACT is a community-based crime prevention program and works closely with Crime Stoppers and ACT Policing,” she said.
“Crime is reduced through community members being the watchful eye with suspicious activity reported directly to Crime Stoppers or police.”
Ms Cody said the Mingle community development program worked to build vibrant and sustainable communities within new estates in the ACT.
“As new residents build a new life in a new estate, safety is one of the key priorities,” she said.
“Both Neighbourhood Watch and Mingle programs have partnered to strengthen crime prevention for residents and families in their local environment.”
She said the two programs also aimed to encourage neighbours to get to know each other.
“I am pleased that such an important initiative is being actioned in Wright and Coombs where personal safety is at the centrepiece,” Ms Cody said.
