The Department for Health and Wellbeing (DHW) has revealed that a record number of COVID-19 vaccinations were delivered in August with figures showing more than 418,000 vaccine doses administered across the State.
DHW said the new monthly record represented more than 100,000 extra doses administered in August compared to July, up 32 per cent, and that number was expected to increase this month.
Minister for Health and Wellbeing, Stephen Wade said vaccination numbers were rising as supplies increased and eligibility expanded.
“South Australians have continued to step up and do what is required throughout the COVID-19 pandemic and it is fantastic to see the numbers of people rolling up their sleeves increasing significantly in recent weeks,” Mr Wade said.
“Building on this momentum, we are now distributing additional doses to State-run vaccination clinics in metropolitan and regional areas to ensure we continue to bring this vital vaccine to the people of South Australia,” he said.
Mr Wade said more pop-up clinics were to be established this month and mobile vaccination units would be run out of the Wayville, Elizabeth and Noarlunga clinics as DHW scaled up its vaccinate rollout and targeted efforts towards communities that needed it the most.
“The vaccination program is our doorway out of the pandemic and getting the vaccine into the arms of South Australians is the best way that we can keep our State’s population safe and our economy strong,” the Minister said.
