Vaccination the key to safe Leavers events

Western Australia’s school students aged 12 and over have been urged to register and book their COVID-19 vaccination appointments as soon as possible.

A new COVID-19 vaccination clinic has opened in the Ellenbrook Central Shopping Centre as the Western Australia Police Force released details of plans for managing Leavers 2021 (22-25 November) events in Dunsborough.

In a statement, the Police Force said young people planning to attend official school leavers’ celebrations in Dunsborough would need to present evidence of having had a COVID-19 vaccination to gain access to the events.

“Any school leaver who has not yet been vaccinated is encouraged to do so before Leavers 2021 begins next Monday (22 November),” it said.

Community vaccination clinics are now open at Canning Vale Market City; Carramar Village Shopping Centre; Lakeside Joondalup Shopping City; Centrepoint Midland Shopping Centre; Claremont Showgrounds; Kwinana Supa Centre; Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre; Armadale Central Shopping Centre; and The Square Mirrabooka, in addition to more than 100 regional locations.

Minister for Police, Paul Papalia said around 10,000 school leavers were expected to attend celebrations in the South West this year.

Mr Papalia said a designated Leavers Entertainment Zone would once again be set up in Dunsborough to provide schoolies with a range of structured activities and entertainment throughout the week.

He said additional police would be deployed to maximise the safety and security of school leavers.

The Minister said Leavers was a great opportunity for young people to let their hair down and celebrate their schooling achievements.

“Police have been working with other Agencies to ensure a safe environment with well-organised activities and entertainment,” he said.

“We want people to enjoy themselves, but we also want them to be safe.

“We want a week that is celebrated and remembered for the right reasons.”

All Western Australians aged 12 years and over can drop into State-run vaccination clinics without an appointment, or bookings can be made on the Roll up for WA website at this PS News link.
