Vaccination call for vulnerable women

The Department of Communities, Housing and Digital Economy wants women of all ages in Queensland, particularly those experiencing domestic and family violence, to get a COVID-19 vaccination.

Minister for Communities and Housing, Leeanne Enoch said the safety and wellbeing of women was important, particularly as the Department tackled the issue of domestic and family violence in the community.

“Getting the COVID-19 vaccination is one of the ways women can protect themselves and ensure their health and the health of their families,” Ms Enoch said.

“I encourage all women to go and get the COVID-19 vaccination, either at one of our vaccination hubs, their GP, local pharmacy, or at the many pop-up clinics being established across the State.”

Ms Enoch was speaking at the Micah Projects Women’s Safety, Security + Stable Housing Forum (21 October), which brought together women, service providers and representatives from Government and community organisations to hear ideas and solutions for progressing women’s safety, security and stable housing.

The Minister told the Forum the Government had placed a strong emphasis on housing in its response to domestic and family violence.

“Our Housing and Homelessness Action Plan 2021-2025 includes funding of a further $20 million over four years for domestic and family violence housing and support,” she said.

“The Department’s Housing Service Centres are working actively with women to plan and meet their longer-term housing needs, supporting those experiencing domestic and family violence to explore social and private housing options,” Ms Enoch said.
